Just in time for quarantine, Netflix launches the Marijuana Masterchef

The new show, “Cooking with Cannabis,” will be hosted by pop star Kelis — known as “Milkshake” — as professional chefs compete to create terpene-infused dishes using THC and CBD for a $10,000 prize.

After a chart-topping music career, Kelis has transitioned into a career in the culinary arts, and is ready to bring cannabis-infused cuisine to a wider audience.

“Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Netflix, so this is a dream come true. Interestingly, this was one of those things that I didn’t go looking for, it just came to me,” Kelis wrote in an Instagram post announcing the show. “As a chef, I’m obviously curious about food, and as a regular person, I was interested in how powerful this topic can be in today’s society. In this country, so many things have been used systematically to oppress groups of people, but this is so culturally important for us to learn and grow together.”

Netflix itself has had a long and complicated history with cannabis entertainment. In 2017, the streaming giant teamed up with a Los Angeles dispensary to sell strains of flower named after popular Netflix original series. Earlier this year, however, Netflix decided to remove all cannabis programming from its Singaporean service, raising questions about international censorship. Remember this masterpiece Disjointed?

As more and more people around the world continue to quarantine to protect their communities from the spread of the coronavirus, “Netflix and chill” has taken on a new meaning in many lives. As such, we’ll be sitting on the couch waiting for the latest in grassy entertainment.

In true stoner style, Cooked with Cannabis will debut on Netflix on 4/20 of course. (April 20)
